Practice Policies

During our initial consultation, we will clarify some of the issues you would like support with and whether we mutually feel progress in those areas can move forward through our interaction. I will provide you an indication about how many sessions I believe will be necessary for progress. This will allow you to take your personal budget into consideration before we begin.

There is a cancellation fee of $50 for appointments that are cancelled without sufficient notice (24 hours). Payment for that will need to be completed before another session is booked. If you arrive late to your scheduled session, I cannot guarantee that I will still be available to accommodate your full session but the full fee will still be expected and we will make the most of whatever time we do have together.

Telehealth

I provide telehealth appointments via Zoom and TEAMs platforms. During our session, I will be in a confidential area and I will ask you to also be in a confidential area.  I understand there are potential risks to this technology, including interruptions and technical difficulties. If we are unable to complete our session due to such circumstances, we can reschedule to make up that missed time. At the beginning of every telehealth appointment I will review safety and confidentiality practices with you before we begin.

Non-Emergency Services

I have limited my practice to clients who are not in need of 24 hour care. I provide therapeutic services by scheduled appointments only. In any crisis or emergency situation, please dial 988 for immediate mental health care. You may also call South Peninsula Hospital at (907) 235-0247 and ask to speak to an on-call counselor.

Confidentiality

Your privacy and confidentiality are actively protected by me and by the law. I will need your informed verbal consent, and written permission, to release any information about you. The only exception to this is ‘mandatory reporting.’

Mandatory reporting means that during a counseling session, if you disclose someone’s serious intent to harm themselves or others, or if you share information about child abuse, elder abuse, or the abuse of a disabled adult, I am legally required to report these matters. This is to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

Social Media

Due to the importance of your confidentiality, I do not accept friend or contact requests on Facebook, etc.

Conclusion of our therapeutic relationship

I will not terminate our relationship without an appropriate discussion with you. However, if I determine that the psychotherapy is not being effectively used or if you are in default on payment or if for any reason you’d just like to try another therapist, I am happy to provide you with a list of qualified psychotherapists you may contact. Relationship dynamics are complicated and finding a good therapeutic fit is a key component to progress.

Acknowledgment of consent

I’d be happy to answer questions regarding any of the above information, during your free 15-minute consultation. .
